How the queen moves in chess
The queen moves any distance along ranks, files or diagonals.
The queen movement rule
The queen combines the movement of a rook and bishop. She cannot jump over another piece.
A move is legal only when it leaves your own king safe. The queen captures an opposing piece by finishing on its square.
How to use the queen
The queen is powerful but vulnerable to tempo. Develop minor pieces before exposing her to repeated attacks.
