How the bishop moves in chess
The bishop moves any distance diagonally.
The bishop movement rule
A bishop stays on the same square color for the entire game and cannot jump over pieces.
A move is legal only when it leaves your own king safe. The bishop captures an opposing piece by finishing on its square.
How to use the bishop
Open diagonals with pawn moves and preserve both bishops when the position is likely to open.
